Peter McCarthy

Peter McCarthy is a highly experienced mining engineer, mining company director and Chairman Emeritus of AMC Consultants, one of the world’s leading mining consultancies.

During his long tenure as Chairman and Managing Director of AMC, he led an international multi-disciplinary team on the evaluation and optimisation of thousands of global mining projects and operations.

Peter has also served as longstanding Chairman of Unity Mining, Director of Castlemaine Goldfields, Director of the Victorian Chamber of Mines, Director of the Australian Gold Council, and President of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Peter started his career as a mining engineer in Broken Hill with CRA Ltd, before moving to Ballarat as Mine Manager to establish the underground works and surface infrastructure of the Sovereign Hill Mining Museum. At this time, he helped Ballarat College of Advanced Education in pioneering a Graduate Diploma of Mining to meet the growing needs of industry education and he was also instrumental in establishing Ballarat Goldfields Ltd, which subsequently floated on the ASX.

Peter McCarthy holds a Bachelor of Science (Mining Engineering) from the University of NSW, a Master of Geoscience (Mineral Economics) at Macquarie University and he has published over sixty technical papers and publications.
